John Hyland

John Hyland is a Co-Founder of Private Advisor Group. He has played a pinnacle role in transforming the firm into one of the country’s leading independent RIAs, drawing on more than 35 years of experience to support independent advisors as both entrepreneurs and financial professionals. In his role, John often speaks on matters of business strategy, industry trends, and the importance of resilience in achieving long-term success.
John began his career in 1990 with American Express Financial Advisors, where he focused on retirement planning and asset management as a district manager and platinum financial advisor. He later co-founded Morristown Financial Group, which evolved into Private Advisor Group. John’s vision of serving advisors, building a strong leadership team, and cultivating a connected community of financial professionals was key to growing the firm into an early leader in the RIA space.
John earned a Bachelor of Arts from St. Bonaventure University. He holds FINRA series 7, 24, and 63 securities registrations with a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.
John is actively involved with several non-profit organizations. He is a trustee of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and a past president of the Leukemia Society of New Jersey. He is a Director at the Mayo Performing Art Center in Morristown and is Vice President of the Morris County School of Technology Board of Education. He serves on the board of Invest in Others and is a past chairman. He has previously served as the major gifts finance chairman of the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade and finance committee chair of the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s board of trustees.
Born and raised in Morristown, John resides there with his wife, Kristin, and their three children, Kelsey, Patric, and Kieran. He is an active runner and triathlete and has raced in the New York Marathon and completed the Ironman 11 times since 2000.
